The remote location of the site posed a number of challenges in the design, construction, fabrication and material delivery of and for the cottage. Due to the significant seasonal changes in water levels of Lake Huron, the Floating House had to be placed on top of a structure of steel pontoons, allowing it to adjust with the fluctuating lake levels. The remote location also made the on-site construction of the cottage cost prohibitive, so the architects and contractor formulated a plan that prefabricated the structure in sections, towing it to the site when completed and covered almost 80 kms in the process.
